Stella Maris Montevideo: a place of rest and support for seafarers

We continue to share information about services and support spaces available to women working on cruise ships. This time, we are presenting the Stella Maris Centre of the Apostleship of the Sea, located at 274 Washington Street, very close to the Port of Montevideo.

Stella Maris is an international network of the Catholic Church dedicated to supporting seafarers. It has 274 welfare centres across five continents. During their calls at Montevideo, women and men working on cruise ships and other vessels can visit the local centre and spend a few hours there.

The centre offers a quiet place to rest and meet others, free internet access, and the opportunity to communicate with family and friends.

The Stella Maris team also visits vessels arriving at the port and offers personal and spiritual support to those who request it, including seafarers who are hospitalized.

It is important to note that the centre does not provide accommodation, but it can serve as a point of reference where seafarers can rest, connect with others and receive information during their time ashore.

How can I contact the Stella Maris Centre in Montevideo?

Before visiting, we recommend contacting the team to arrange your visit and confirm that the centre is available.
